Initiation Tissue Flasks Deflasking Nursery Production Garden Specimen

Echeveria Tissue Cultures

Tissue cultured Echeveria are easily deflasked and grow vigorously under typical nursery conditions. While ideal for maximising growth rates, generally the optimum growing conditions present in the deflasking and growing-on houses of propagation nurseries promote such strong growth in Echeveria that the plants tend not to display their full potential in terms of colour, shape and bumpiness (where applicable). Hence it is important for the grower to time the moderation of growing conditions in order that the plants are able to develop these features in time for retail sale.

Bumps, in particular, if not formed at the development of a leaf, are unlikely to develop at all on that leaf, but once appropriate conditions are restored, subsequent leaves will display the bumps. Where plants of bumpy-leaved cultivars do not form bumps, or the bumps are less prominent than is typical for the cultivar, it is usually an indication that growing conditions are too favourable, so adjust moisture, light, fertilizer or temperature levels to a more appropriate level. Likewise for the subjects of colour and shape, which are similarly affected by growing conditions.
